About Us

Welcome to Moda International®, your number one source for beautiful and unique dresses, sweaters, coats, clothing, corsets, and tops. We’re dedicated to giving you the very best of women’s fashion, with a focus on bringing you items that are both stylish and high quality.

Founded in 1995, Moda International® has come a long way from our beginnings in a small workshop in Los Angeles. The passionate sewists who started our company more than 25 years ago had a dream to create gorgeous, inspired designs that made women feel confident and beautiful, no matter their shape or size. We’re thrilled that we’ve been able to stay true to our founding mission, even as we’ve grown into an internationally recognized brand beloved by hundreds of thousands of customers.

Our Story

Moda International was started by Rebecca Clark and Emma Walsh, two friends who met while studying fashion design in college. After graduation, Rebecca and Emma decided to go into business together, pooling their talents to create a clothing line focused on flattering silhouettes, unique details, and high quality fabrications.

They began building the business out of a small rented space, where it was just the two of them cutting patterns, sewing samples, and taking orders. Rebecca and Emma started off selling their collections locally, gaining a following among boutiques and specialty stores in the Los Angeles area. Within a few years, they were able to open their first small studio and hire additional seamstresses.

The early success of Moda International came from Rebecca and Emma’s relentless attention to detail and quality. Unlike many other emerging designers, they strove to create garments that were as meticulously finished inside as they were stylishly designed outside. They personally inspected every item before it shipped, rejecting anything less than perfect. This commitment to excellence quickly became a cornerstone of the Moda International brand.

Expanding Our Offerings

In the early 2000s, Moda International began expanding from dresses into a wider array of products. We introduced sweater collections featuring luxe knits and eye-catching details like fur trims and embellishments. Our coat selection grew to include classic peacoats, statement faux furs, and edgy leather moto jackets.

Corset tops and bodices also became a key part of our catalog during this period. We offered corset styles ranging from romantic off-the-shoulder peasant tops to bold, figure-hugging satin bustiers. The corset pieces were an instant customer favorite, letting women add a flirty, feminine detail to their look.

By the mid-2000s, Moda International offered highly curated collections of dresses, sweaters, coats, and corsetry spanning a variety of styles, fabrics, and silhouettes. Our focus remained on creating unique pieces with impeccable construction. Each garment combined visionary design with real women’s needs in mind.

Craftsmanship and Quality

Even as Moda International has grown over the decades, quality and craftsmanship remain at the absolute core of our brand. Just like in our early days, every item is carefully examined multiple times throughout the production process. Any product that doesn’t meet our strict quality standards gets rejected before it can leave our facilities.

The vast majority of Moda International products are produced in our Los Angeles-based factory, where we can oversee and control every aspect of garment construction. Our talented team of in-house seamstresses, cutters, and patternmakers ensure that each piece meets the standards we’ve set over decades in the business. We also vet all of our specialty fabrics thoroughly, sourcing only from mills known for excellence.

For certain specialty pieces, we partner with small-batch workshops in Europe that possess generations of apparel craftsmanship experience. Even when producing overseas, we send representatives to inspect operations and provide hands-on feedback. Consistent quality is non-negotiable for our brand.

Our Design Philosophy

The Moda International design philosophy balances timeless style with of-the-moment details. Our talented in-house team keeps up with emerging trends and innovations. However, we always interpret them in a way that fits with our commitment to sophisticated, feminine design.

Value, versatility, and everyday wearability are also key considerations for our products. We strive to create pieces that can transition effortlessly from day to night, workweek to weekend. Clothing should never be disposable or just for special occasions. A woman should feel just as chic running errands in a Moda International dress as she does attending a gala.

Ultimately, our goal is for a woman to feel her absolute best whenever she slips on one of our pieces. We want her to have the confidence that comes from looking polished, put-together, and unmistakably feminine. She should feel like the very best version of herself. That sensibility informs every aesthetic choice we make.

Giving Back

Corporate social responsibility has been important to us since Moda International’s earliest days. We believe that all businesses have an obligation to do good in the communities that support them. Over the years, we have partnered with numerous organizations supporting important causes related to women’s health, economic empowerment, domestic violence prevention, and more.

One of our longest-standing partnerships is with Dress for Success, an incredible nonprofit that provides professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. We regularly donate sample collections, overstock merchandise, and culled showroom items to help stock Dress for Success boutiques around the country. Their mission to uplift and support all women strongly aligns with our own values as a women-run business.

Looking to the Future

In the 25+ years since our founding, the fashion and retail landscapes have changed tremendously. However, the original vision that Rebecca and Emma started Moda International with remains as relevant as ever. We continue striving to bring women meticulously crafted, artfully designed pieces that make them look and feel their very best.

As we look to the future, we plan to thoughtfully grow Moda International while staying true to our heritage. We’ll keep innovating with fresh aesthetic details and fabrications while maintaining our obsessive standards for quality craftsmanship. Most importantly, we’ll keep listening to our loyal customers to produce pieces that fit seamlessly into their lifestyles.

The fashion world may be fickle, but our commitment to empowering women through timeless, versatile clothing is unwavering. We can’t wait to see what the next 25 years bring for Moda International! Thank you for being part of our story and joining us on this journey.
