Information We Collect
We only collect information about you if we have a reason to do so–for example, to provide our Services, to communicate with you, or to make our Services better.
We collect this information from three sources: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources. Let’s go over what we collect from each source.
Information You Provide to Us
It’s probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us directly. Here are some examples:
- Basic account information: We ask for basic information from you in order to set up your account. For example, we require individuals who sign up for an account to provide a username and email address–and that’s it. You may provide us with more information–like your name–but we don’t require that information to create a Hurst account.
- Profile information: You may choose to give us more information for your Hurst profile, like your full name, city, website, birthday, and profile picture. This information helps personalize and improve your Hurst experience.
- Content: We collect and store content that you create, input, submit, post, upload, transmit, or otherwise provide through the Service. This includes any information about the content like when you created it and how you interact with it.
- Communications: When you contact us or communicate with us directly, we collect information about your communication and any information you choose to provide.
Information We Collect Automatically
We also collect some information automatically:
- Log information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, including the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and mobile network information. We collect log information when you use our Services–for example, when you create or make changes to your Hurst account by logging into our Services.
- Usage information: We collect information about your usage of our Services. For example, we collect information about the actions you take while using our Services, like your searches, views, likes, clicks, follows, saves, comments, and how you interact with others on our Services.
- Location information: We may determine the approximate location of your device from your IP address. We collect and use this information to, for example, calculate how many people visit our Services from certain geographic regions.
- Cookies and similar technologies: We may use cookies and other similar technologies, like web beacons, pixels, and mobile identifiers, to collect information about how you interact with our Services. Cookies are small text files that websites or apps store on visitor devices. They are widely used to make websites and apps work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide analytics data. You can control how websites use cookies by configuring your browser’s privacy settings. To learn more about these technologies, please see our Cookie Policy.
Information We Receive from Outside Sources
In some cases, we receive information about you from third parties. For example:
If you access our Services through a third-party connection or log-in, that third party may pass certain information about your use of its service to Hurst. This information could include, for example, any information that you have permitted the third party to share with us, demographic information, information about your activities on the third-party service and the kinds of content that you engage with, or information about what advertisements you have been shown or clicked on.
Your Hurst experience is integrated around third-party services. For certain activities, we may receive information about you from those third parties, depending on your privacy settings with those third parties. For example, if you connect your Hurst account to your social media account, we will have access to information from your social media profile, like your friends or contacts.
We may collect information that other users provide about you when they use our Services–like when they share a visualization with you, message you, or collaborate with you. For example, we collect the message content that other users send to you, like any reports they send you on your network updates through Hurst messaging.
We may receive additional information about you that third parties provide to supplement our Services. For example, we work with third parties to provide predictive analytics about what topics might interest you based on your Hurst profile. We also receive information about you and your activities on and off Hurst from third-party partners, like marketing partners, affiliates, and data enrichment partners. We use this information to personalize the Hurst experience for you.

How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may share information about you in the limited circumstances described below.
At Your Direction
We share your information if you direct us to do so. For example, if you purchase a Hurst Service through a third-party service, we will share some information about you with that service provider so they can provide you with the proper service. You may also direct us through your privacy settings to share your information with other third parties.

They will only have access to the personal information they need to perform these obligations, and are not permitted to use or disclose that information for other purposes.
For Legal Reasons
We may access, preserve, and share your information with regulators, law enforcement or others where we have a good-faith belief it is necessary to respond to legal process or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Hurst, our users, or the public. This includes responding to legal demands or requests from jurisdictions outside of the United States if we have a good-faith belief that the response is necessary and complies with the law.
To Maintain Our Services
We share information globally among Hurst-affiliated companies and websites, which connect, enable and define the Hurst network, to operate and maintain our Services. For example, if you choose to connect your Hurst account to your social media account, we may share your social media profile information with other Hurst users to enable you and other users to connect.
Data Retention, Account Deletion & EU User Rights
Data Retention
We generally retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Services. If you cease using our Services or your account is deleted, we still may retain your personal information, but we will delete or anonymize it upon request and as permitted or required by applicable law.
Even if you cease using our Services or delete your account, we may retain your personal information for analytical purposes, to use your anonymized data, but not to identify you specifically, and for audit and financial purposes. We will retain your personal information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, preserve information pursuant to our records retention policies or resolve disputes.
Account Deletion
If you want to delete your Hurst account, you can do so directly from the settings menu in your account. When your account is deleted, it’s permanently deleted from our Services. We also delete other information associated with your account, such as your public profile information and activity on our Services. In some circumstances, though, some information may remain in our backup and technical systems for a limited period of time for security, fraud detection and other similar purposes. Keep in mind that when you ask to delete your account, it does not affect the access or use of any information you’ve already shared with others or any information others have shared about you—even if it was shared through Hurst.
EU User Rights
If you reside in the European Union, you have certain rights and protections under the law regarding the processing of your personal data, including the right to access, rectification, erasure, data portability, restrictions on processing, and objection to processing. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Please note, these rights are limited in some circumstances by local data protection laws. We will respond to requests from EU data subjects in accordance with applicable law, and requests may take at least 30 days to process.
Children’s Privacy
Our Services are not directed to children under 16. If a parent or guardian becomes aware that his or her child has provided us with information without their consent, he or she should contact us. We will delete such information from our files as soon as reasonably practicable.
Security
While no online service is 100% secure, we work very hard to protect information about you against unauthorized access, use, alteration, or destruction, and take reasonable measures to do so, such as monitoring our Services for potential vulnerabilities and attacks.
Changes To Our Privacy Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time to better describe our practices around the collection, use and disclosure of your information in connection with our Services. The revised Privacy Policy will be effective as of the published effective date. If we make any material changes, we will provide you with notice as appropriate under the circumstances, e.g, by displaying a prominent notice on our Services or by sending you an email. We encourage you to read this Privacy Policy periodically to stay up-to-date about our privacy practices. Your use of the Services following these changes means that you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
