The Halibrand story begins in 1946 when Ted Halibrand founded his automotive machine shop in Los Angeles. A racer himself, Ted knew that stock wheels and brakes simply couldn’t withstand the demands of high-performance driving. So he began crafting custom parts for fellow racers, machining magnesium wheels, aluminum drums, and quick-change rearends in his small shop.
Word quickly spread among the racing community about Ted’s innovative designs. His magnesium Sprint wheels were not only lightweight and strong, they looked fantastic. The smooth discs and pin-drive knockoffs became synonymous with speed. Halibrand Engineering rapidly expanded as Ted pioneered the use of mag wheels and multi-piston calipers in everything from Indy cars to dragsters.
By the 1960s, Halibrand’s success in motorsports led to the launch of his iconic street wheel line. The Sprint, Torq-Thrust, and Indianapolis Roadster designs that dominated the track were now available for street rods and muscle cars. The bold Halibrand kidney bean hubcaps and big ‘n’ littles setups defined the look of West Coast hot rodding.

Each wheel starts as a solid billet of aircraft-grade aluminum. Our advanced 5-axis CNC machining centers carve the billet into a beautifully sculpted rim in a fraction of the time it used to take skilled metalworkers. But computers alone can’t replicate the skill of a master wheel builder.
Once machined, every Halibrand wheel is individually inspected and assembled by hand. Our technicians polish and finish the wheels to perfection before mounting them on a balancing arbor. Precise calibration ensures a smooth ride with no vibrations at any speed.
